When you source small home appliances from a manufacturer, you will usually choose one of three models. They differ in who owns the design, how much engineering work is involved and how quickly you can reach the market.
OEM — your design, our production
In Original Equipment Manufacturing, the buyer supplies the design or detailed specification and the factory produces it. It offers the most control and differentiation, but typically requires more development time, tooling and testing.
ODM — our design, adapted for you
In Original Design Manufacturing, the factory already has a proven design. The buyer selects a model and customises features, finishes or accessories. It is usually faster and lower-risk than full OEM development.
Private label — fastest route to market
With buyer-label (private-label) production, an existing model is produced with your logo, colours, manuals and packaging. It is the quickest way to launch a branded range.
How to choose
Consider time-to-market, budget for tooling, how differentiated the product needs to be and the certifications your market requires. Many brands start with private label or ODM and move to OEM for hero products.
